At the intersection of two existing main streets in Montreal
(St-Laurent and De La Gauchetière), a new bus shelter has been carefully
conceptualized considering the site-specific conditions such as the users,
the architecture and the weather in this area. A design that is both practical
and aesthetically suitable was created. The structure is made out of glass
and metal. The metal serves to anchor the structure to the concrete sidewalk.
The roof and walls are made of glass, but the roof is tinted in order to create
shadow during the hot summer. The bench is made of a dark wood for aesthetic
reasons and to prevent the seat from getting too cold during the winter. The structure
protects users from the wind and rain. A large bench with armrests is
particularly suitable for users, such as frequent elders carrying their grocery
bags.
